Wakashio, a young boy from a coastal village, and Yakaze, a reckless boy from a forest village, fall head over heels in love with each other in secret. Having to hide in order to see each other, these escapades are the only moments of comfort for Wakashio, who has few distractions as the son of the village chief. Unfortunately, his older brother discovers them and brutally kills Yakaze.
