Paris has been condemned since the dawn of time, and the catacombs are the key.
Paris, winter 1774.
The earth is shaking. Rue d'Enfer is an entire block of houses that collapses to make way for a giant crater. Constrained by the catastrophic state of the underground galleries and quarries, Louis XVI founded the General Inspection of Quarries.
Paris, spring 2021.
Sophie, daughter of Pierre-Guillaume Alain-Serré, current director of the Inspection Générale des Carrières, has disappeared. His only friend, Sonia, notices his absence from high school. She then decides to summon three other friends: Dez, Berry and Kim to try to elucidate this mystery of which the Parisian catacombs seem to be the starting point. Simultaneously, Antoine leaves with three colleagues to study the landslides that have occurred in the underground galleries, at very specific historical locations.
These two groups will dive into the heart of the Parisian basin which could turn out to be much more than a simple geological basin.
BigUnder gives back to the city of Paris its aura of mystery and fantasy in a contemporary environment. This story claims its affiliation with the French series of the sixties such as Belphegor or Baal's Companions, as well as John Hughes' teenage tales of the eighties like The Breakfast Club.
Drawing from Lovecraft the indescribable sticky horror dormant in the catacombs of Paris, the horrific aspect is counterbalanced by the luminous design of Alex Nieto (Locust, Beyond) and the colors of Fabiana Mascolo (Yasmeen, Firefly, Seven Secret). Virgile Iscan signs his first comic strip with Big Under.
