Ginta Toramizu, a sophomore at Furowa Middle School, spends her time dreaming of a beautiful world straight out of a fairy tale. His mother writes novels of this genre and his father mysteriously disappeared six years ago. Ginta pretends to dream every night of a magical land named Märchen (meaning "fairy tale" in German) and is teased by her classmates. Only his friend Koyuki takes him seriously. One day, a kind of ghost (actually an ärm dimension named Pierrot) appears during a lesson and offers Ginta to take him to another world corresponding to the world of his dreams. He accepts without hesitation.

He lands in the land of Mär Heaven, quite similar to the one he dreams of every night and in which he is endowed with extraordinary physical skills, his strength being multiplied by 10. In this land exist artifacts, small objects named Ärms, possessing special powers like summoning spirits, transforming into a weapon or guardian.

But the country is under threat from the army of the Exchequer. Led by Phantom, she tried six years earlier to annihilate the country but was repelled by Danna, a mysterious man from the same world as Ginta.
