A trip to the heart of Italy and the Vatican!
In Japan in 1921, between the two great world wars, a young Christian boy who lost both
parents live with his uncle's family. He has difficulty expressing his true feelings and does not feel
not in his place. His only hobby is learning Italian in the church he used to attend. A day,
he meets a pilot from Italy who tells him about the wonders of his country. He then receives a
letter from the Vatican, inviting him to join the Pontifical Gregorian University. He then leaves for Italy and it is
upon arriving in this country which is unknown to him, he becomes aware of the immensity of the world, of its beauty
and that he will do everything to find his place in this one
Here we have a strong story, full of feeling and which is a true ode to fraternity. There are a few of us
years after the First World War. At the time, Christians were rather rare in Japan. Of another
On the other hand, there are also very few Japanese in Italy, especially in the Vatican. And yet, our hero
never breaks down regardless of the taunts he receives and the country in which he finds himself. He does not hesitate
not to make friends with other students who, like him, are sidelined because of their difference. He
prefers instead to concentrate on discovering Italy, which is a new world for him, and finding his place in
this one. This is Asuka Ikuni's first published work, and yet she already has a style of her own.
His drawings are magnificent, especially the landscapes and monuments, such as the interior of the Vatican or the
views of Rome. The work is by turns amusing and moving and we take pleasure in following the adventures of
our hero while discovering how the Vatican works.
