In contemporary Japan, the position of kami, or deity, is assigned to humans with supernatural powers and state diplomas, who are then employed at shrines throughout the country. Nagi's grandmother was a goddess, but since her accidental death, no one has come forward to replace her at the town temple. There would, however, be an ideal candidate: Takeru, Nagi's twin brother... Unfortunately, he has remained cloistered in his room since the tragedy, only communicating with his sister through his gifts of telepathy and telekinesis. Deprived of this kind of powers, the young girl has nevertheless developed a technique to cut short these mental intrusions when they become too insistent... because Takeru may be a recluse, he is nonetheless none the less talkative !
One morning, Nagi discovers his neighborhood in turmoil. A little boy, also expected to become a kami, has disappeared! She goes looking for him and finds him passed out in the nearby forest. Only, when she tries to bring him back, she is stopped by a terrifying force! Who can use their powers to kidnap a child? Trying everything, she uses her anti-Takeru psychic parry to repel the attack... and it works! Without knowing it, Nagi has just proven that she is special, and finds herself enrolled in the training school for the gods against her will!
